Definitely well done for their budget range. The building is located right beneath the ruins in the park (the tall circular building that looks like a huge torturing device). You would have never suspected such a building to exist in the park. The architecture of the building is unique. It's a fairly decent sized theater and you can purchase small bites and sandwiches to eat. I never knew Queens had a theater until that day. It was a yelp elite event that brought me here. The Queens Theater is a very nice venue and would also make a good place to see some rock and roll played.Ĭame here to see "The Queen Bees". It was an enjoyable evening off Broadway at the theater. There is also a little audience participation. The staging is minimal but the show only needs the two actors and a piano. Kinosian also wrote the play and the music, the lyrics are by Kellen Blair. Kinosian reminded me of Martin Short with all the characters he plays and their gestures and voices. "Murder for Two" is a two man musical comedy staring Joe Kinosian who plays all the suspects and Ian Lowe who plays the detective. The sight lines to the stage are very good as was the sound. I really liked the art deco theater seats that were installed during the remodeling. It has the main theater a cabaret and a smaller performance space downstairs. The theater is now used for cabaret, concerts, Broadway revivals, new productions, and film festivals. It is under the NY State pavilion near the Unisphere. It became known as the Queens Theater in the Park. A $4 million project converted it into a 476-seat community theater, designed by architect Alfredo De Vido, opened in 1993. It was adapted from the former "Theaterama" at the 1964 New York World's Fair. I was invited by the Yelp Elite group to see the show, "Murder for Two".Ī little history about the theater. I have know about the Queens Theater for years but I had never been inside until this past weekend. keep that in mind when you come to see a show here and bring plenty of cash. The play was great, the staff and some policies are not. they are not those text book artistic folks who enjoy what they are doing, they are the other kind, the text book folks who do this mostly as a job or hobby and cant wait to go home, it seemed. The staff themselves are a bit to the rude side. You are not allowed to bring anything as far as drinks and food into the theatre area (even if it was something you purchased in the concession stand), that killed my mood i came in and got a cup of coffe and could not enjoy it inside. The concessions if CASH ONLY, that should be ok, but theres no ATM at the theatre so. The cons: (take a sit there quite a bit of them) Overall for the pros, this is spacious, they have concessions and some quick service overall in the box office and the concessions as well. The theatre is very spacious and has plenty of sitting you can fit a great amount of spectators here.
